How do I know if an olive oil is good or not?

Taste it. Pour a little into a small shot glass or on a spoon and slurp it down. Close your eyes and really taste it. If you’re tasting an extra virgin olive oil, it should taste “green” and like olives. You might detect other notes like banana or grass-tomato. Other grades will not taste like much because they have been treated to remove unpleasant tastes. But you should not detect any bad tastes, such as cardboard or metallic. How do I know if olive oil is fresh?

First, make sure you can find the “bottled on” date or the “best before” date. The fresher, the better. If you can’t find dates, choose another olive oil. A good olive oil can be used within two years of its “bottled on” date. Similarly, try to find an olive oil that has a “best before” date which is at least one year in the future.

What color is good olive oil?

The color is no quality indicator, it can be gold or green (be aware of colorants). Only trust the Analyzed oils, always ask for it.
